QRRNT creates technology enabling ships to capture lost kinetic energy
QRRNT AS is a new company based in Trondheim, Norway. Formed in 2017 by Julia Navarsete, QRRNT is creating an innovative technology which enables ships to save otherwise lost kinetic energy. Through these savings, the ships are able to save on fuel usage, helping the environment and also their bottom line.
In 2016, QRRNT AS owner Julia Navarsete won Angel Challenge Trondheim kicking off QRRNT’s ability to begin the production of the technology in earnest. With the support of Innovation Norway, NTNU Accel and QRRNT’s valued investors, it is expected that QRRNT will be producing commercially in Q1 2018.
Currently, QRRNT is in the phase of 3D optimisation and modelling of the turbines, preparing for production before being installed on a local ship. Each installation will require custom made turbines which involves an initial inspection of the ship to determine the specifications of the equipment and the potential energy savings.
With a small team of three, QRRNT AS will increase their team as they progress through to production. In September, the team will increase to four with the employment of an engineer to focus on the optimisation of the turbines. In addition to the core team, QRRNT AS is working with a range of partners to ensure the highest of quality of product. The supply chain of the QRRNT product is designed and manufactured in Norway to ensure full visibility of the supply chain.
